Kido Cup Hamburg

For the second time took place last weekend of the Kido-Cup in Hamburg. A tournament of superlatives. Eight professionals on site, 5500 € prize money, plus a mixed tournament Top16-main, women's and youth tournament. The biggest Goturnier after the Congress in Tampere wanted to be a man. But unfortunately, this expectation was not fulfilled entirely, for well over 50 pre-registered and did not appear at the end, a total of "only" 166 players participate in the main event. One less than in the monkey jump and nearly 60 fewer than at Easter in Paris. The non-published Pre-registered and the tournament gemsichte system provided for a minimum one-hour delay in the draw. To avoid further time to fall behind, was in the first round decided not to loose by rating. This caused yet isolated for expressions of discontent, was not to alter it.

Nevertheless it was very busy international tournament a great success. So many top European players and Asian professionals have to drum up only once on a weekend. A remarkable performance that would not be appropriate without sponsorship from Korea have been possible. The good will of the Koreans to promote Baduk in Europe, is actually a godsend for us Gospieler in this country. Martin Stiassny 2k (our EGF-president) has done so much behind the scenes of the tournament lobby to hope in the future on similar support may.

has won the spectacle of the Top16 players Csaba Mero 6d, could prevail in Endpiel against Benjamin Teuber 6d. In the main event was after 5 rounds in January Prokop 4d from Prague in front. The ladies prize Rita Poscai 4d won from Hungary and the youth award went to Andrew Staelens 2d. The longest journey the way, had a 7-year-old boy from Madrid (Oscar Vázquez 7k), who came especially for this tournament with his father in Hamburg. That's what I call enthusiasm!

Not quite as successful to beat the only two players from the Go-Bonner sphere of influence. Torsten won only one of four games and I went there with two victories only slightly better. For me, after all, an increase on previous tournaments in Hamburg, where it went 1-4 with a regular home. The Hanseatic city is holding a hot pavement. ;)

But you go not just to win the tournaments, at least not on Kyu-level and if you are already Ü-40. Extremely important are the social contacts, the old nose, which one looks back at shows and with which you hold one or the other Pläuschchen. At the weekend I met by chance on 2 ½ Gospieler who, like me for a while Granada Go there, have lived and played. The course had to be on a picture (above) noted. (From left to right: Marco 1k, 6k Yvonne, and Axel Javier 1k 2k (½).) Even if it was players not quite as great, for such a meeting, the long journey was worth the same.
